No DVD drive? Open a VIDEO_TS folder

What it does

Every video DVD has a folder on it called VIDEO_TS that holds the video. If someone already copied that folder to a PC, a USB stick, or a backup drive, Rippsy can turn it into an MP4 or MKV without the disc or a DVD drive.

How to use it

Any of these work:

• Under 1. Choose a disc, click Open a VIDEO_TS folder instead… and pick the VIDEO_TS folder, or the folder it sits in.
• Drag the folder from File Explorer and drop it on the Rippsy window.
• Start Rippsy with the folder's path, for example Rippsy.exe "D:\Backups\WEDDING".

The folder then appears in the list like a disc, named after the folder (for example "WEDDING"). From there it works the same as a disc: pick a title if there's more than one, choose a format, and press Start ripping.

Have an ISO file instead? Double-click it in File Explorer. Windows opens it as a new drive, which Rippsy lists like any other disc (click Refresh if it doesn't appear).

Troubleshooting

• "That folder doesn't contain a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder": choose the VIDEO_TS folder itself or the folder directly above it. A folder of .mp4 or .mov files isn't a DVD and is already a video you can play.
• Disc image (ISO) is grayed out: an ISO can only be made from a real disc in a drive.
• "This disc is copy-protected": the folder was copied from a protected movie disc. See Copy-protected discs.
• Want a drive instead? USB DVD drives are inexpensive, and Rippsy notices one as soon as it's plugged in.
