What it does
Settings holds the few choices you might want to change. Everything is set sensibly from the start, so most people never need to open it.

| Video quality (MP4 and MKV) | Balanced | Faster finishes sooner; files are a little bigger. Balanced (recommended) looks the same as the disc at a sensible size. Best is slower and gives the smallest files at the highest quality. |
| Open the disc tray when a rip finishes | On | Pops the disc out so you know it's done and can put in the next one. Some laptop and USB drives can't do this. |
| Check for updates once a day | On | Sends only the Rippsy version and an anonymous ID for this PC. Nothing about your discs or videos. |
| Send crash reports to help fix bugs | Off | If Rippsy crashes, sends the technical error with file and folder names removed. |
| Video engine (FFmpeg) | Built-in | The program Rippsy uses to convert video. See below. |

The quality setting doesn't affect MKV, original quality or Disc image (ISO), which don't convert the video.
The save folder and format aren't in Settings. You choose them on the main screen under 2. Save as, and Rippsy remembers them.
How to use it
- Click ⚙ Settings at the top right (or press Ctrl+,).
- Change what you like.
- Click Save.
Video engine (FFmpeg)
Rippsy converts video with FFmpeg, free software that comes with Rippsy. If you prefer your own
copy, click Use a different FFmpeg… and choose its ffmpeg.exe. Your copy must include the
libx264 encoder (most full Windows builds do); Rippsy checks and tells you if it doesn't. Click
Use the built-in one to switch back.
Troubleshooting
- "This FFmpeg can't make Rippsy's videos: it's missing …": that build lacks something Rippsy needs. Pick a different build, or use the built-in one.
- Banner: "Rippsy's video engine (FFmpeg) is missing": see The rip didn't finish.
- The tray doesn't open: some drives don't support it. The rip is still saved.
