Vantage Player isn't my default app
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Double-clicking a video opens another player. Windows only changes the default video app when you confirm it in Windows Settings, so Vantage Player cannot switch it for you.
What to do
- In Vantage Player, right-click → Make Vantage Player the default…, or open Settings and press Set as default….
- In Windows Settings, choose Vantage Player for each file type you want: .mp4, .mkv, .mov, .avi and so on. Each type is set separately.
- Double-click a video in File Explorer to check.
A type you did not change keeps its old player. Go back to Vantage Player's page in Settings → Apps → Default apps to set the rest.
Just for now: right-click a video in File Explorer → Open with → Vantage Player. To make it stick for that type, choose Choose another app, pick Vantage Player, and select Always.
It switched back
A Windows update or another video app can reset the default. Set it again with the steps above. Once Vantage Player is the default for common types, the Make Vantage Player the default… item leaves the right-click menu.
