Video fit and zoom
Last updated: 26 October 2026
What it does
Video fit sets how the picture fills the window. Zoom magnifies part of the picture.
How to use it
Video fit
Press A to step through the options, or right-click → Video fit and pick one:
- Fit (whole picture): the whole picture, with black bars if the shape does not match the window.
- Fill (crop to window): fills the window and crops the edges.
- Stretch (ignore aspect): fills the window and stretches the picture.
- Force 16:9 and Force 4:3: for a video that plays squashed or stretched because the file has the wrong shape recorded in it.
Zoom
- Ctrl + mouse wheel zooms in and out at the pointer.
- Ctrl + and Ctrl − zoom in and out. Ctrl+0 resets to 100%.
- While zoomed in, drag the picture to move around it.
The Video fit menu shows the current zoom and has the same zoom commands.
Troubleshooting
- Zoom magnifies the picture on screen. It does not add detail that the video does not have.
- Dragging changes video instead of moving the picture: you are at 100%. Zoom in first.
