Subtitles, audio and speed
Last updated: 26 October 2026
What it does
These menus choose subtitles, which audio track plays, which speakers or headphones it plays on, and how fast the video plays. All of them are on the right-click menu.
How to use it
Subtitles
- Right-click → Subtitles. Pick a track from the file, or Off.
- To use a separate subtitle file, choose Add subtitle file… and pick an SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB or VTT file.
- If subtitles are early or late, press [ to show them earlier and ] to show them later, 50 ms at a time.
Audio track
- Right-click → Audio track switches between the languages or tracks in the file.
- If the sound is out of step with the picture, press - and = to move it 50 ms at a time.
Audio output
- Right-click → Audio output plays the sound on a different device, such as headphones or a TV, without changing the Windows default.
Playback speed
- Right-click → Playback speed: 0.5×, 0.75×, Normal, 1.25×, 1.5× or 2×.
Troubleshooting
- Subtitles says "none in this file": the video has no subtitle tracks. Add a subtitle file instead.
- No sound: check Audio output, the mute button on the control bar, and the volume (Up and Down).
