Vantage Player privacy policy
Last updated: 1 September 2026
Vantage Player is a Windows desktop application published by LTC Labs. This policy covers what the application does with your data. The short version: your videos never leave your computer.
What Vantage Player stores on your computer
Playback happens on this PC. The only things written to disk are preferences and a small amount of local state:
| Data | Where it lives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Settings | %APPDATA%\VantagePlayer\settings.json | Playback, privacy, and window preferences |
| Resume positions | %APPDATA%\VantagePlayer\ | So a video can continue where you left off |
| Recent files | %APPDATA%\VantagePlayer\ | The last 15 videos you opened (optional) |
| Telemetry queue | %APPDATA%\VantagePlayer\telemetry_queue.json | Offline buffer if a diagnostic POST could not be sent |
| Logs | %LOCALAPPDATA%\LTCLabs\VantagePlayer\Logs\ | Diagnosing playback and decoder problems |
| Last update check | %LOCALAPPDATA%\LTCLabs\VantagePlayer\.last-update-check | So the app does not check for updates more than once a day |
| Saved frames | Pictures\Vantage Player | Only if you press Ctrl+S |
You can delete any of it at any time. Turning off Remember recent files in Settings also deletes the list already stored. Deleting the folders above is enough; nothing is retained in an LTC Labs cloud store of your media.
Vantage Player does not upload, transcode to a server, or back up your video files.
What Vantage Player sends to LTC Labs
- A startup request to
https://www.ltclabs.dev/api/app/update-check, at most once per 24 hours. This is how the application learns whether a newer version exists and retrieves a support token. It carries a hashed machine identifier, the app version, and the OS version. - Anonymous usage events, when Send anonymous usage data is on in Settings (on by default):
app_launched,app_closed,video_opened,folder_navigated, andsnapshot_saved. Payloads are technical only: container, codec, duration, pixel size, session length, launch source. No file paths, no filenames, no folder names. - Crash reports and basic stability events (
playback_failed, plus an unhandled-exception report if the app crashes). These stay on even if you turn optional usage data off, so we can fix decoder and startup failures. File and folder names are stripped. - Support tickets, only when you press ? → Send feedback: the email address you type, an optional name, the subject and message, and (if you leave the box checked) a recent application log with file names stripped. You confirm the email address on screen before it is sent.
Every usage event is documented in Telemetry.
What is never sent
- Video or audio content
- File paths, filenames, or folder names
- Subtitle text
- Recent-file lists or resume positions
- Your Windows account name
- Your name or email address, except in a support ticket you choose to submit
How "anonymous" works
Vantage Player identifies a machine by a SHA-256 hash of the Windows MachineGuid value. The original value never leaves your computer. There is no user account and no sign-in anywhere in Vantage Player.
Children
Vantage Player plays files you open. It has no content of its own, no social features, and no user-generated content shown to other people. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, beyond what is listed above.
Third parties
Vantage Player contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party trackers. The only network destination for diagnostics and support is ltclabs.dev. Data is not sold, rented, or shared with anyone.
Playback uses LibVLC (VideoLAN), loaded from files shipped next to the application. Decoding is local. LibVLC is not used as a network analytics channel.
Your choices
- Turn off optional usage data in Settings → Send anonymous usage data
- Turn off Remember recent files (this also deletes the stored list)
- Leave the diagnostic-info box unchecked on a support ticket
- Delete the settings, log, and telemetry folders at any time
Crash reports and the once-a-day update check remain, as described above.
Retention
Anonymous usage and crash data are retained for up to 24 months for product analysis. Support tickets are kept until the request is resolved and for a reasonable period afterwards for follow-up.
Contact
- In-app: “?” → Send feedback / report a bug
- Email: [email protected]
- Web: ltclabs.dev
