Play a folder
Last updated: 26 October 2026
What it does
When you open a video, Vantage Player lines up the other videos in its folder. Next and previous move through that folder, so there is no playlist to build. A folder browser on the left edge shows the folder as thumbnails.
How to use it
Next and previous
- Press Right for the next video and Left for the previous one. Holding the key down moves one video, not the whole folder.
- Or drag across the picture: drag to the right for the next video, to the left for the previous one.
- Or use the previous and next buttons in the middle of the control bar.
- Media keys on a keyboard (next, previous, play/pause) work too.
At the first or last video, the picture bounces instead of moving.
The folder browser
- Point at the tab on the left edge of the window, or click it. The browser slides out with a thumbnail of each video in the folder.
- Click a video to play it. Scroll with the mouse wheel.
- Move the pointer away and the browser slides back.
The tab shows only when there is more than one video to choose from.
Order, auto-play and repeat
- Right-click → Sort order sorts the folder by Date modified, Date created or File name. Next and previous follow that order.
- Right-click → Auto-play next goes straight on to the next video when one ends.
- Right-click → Repeat plays the current video again. If both are on, Repeat wins.
Vantage Player remembers these choices. Auto-play next and Repeat are also in Settings.
Troubleshooting
- Next and previous do nothing: the video may not be in a folder Vantage Player can read, for example one dragged from a list of recent files. Open it from File Explorer or with Ctrl+O.
- While you are zoomed in, dragging moves the picture instead of changing videos. Use the arrow keys, or reset the zoom with Ctrl+0.
- If you opened several files at once, next and previous stay inside those files. See Open videos.
