What is "Not seen by the scan"?
Last updated: 22 October 2026
What it means
The Dashboard compares the space your drive says is used with what the scan counted. The difference shows as Not seen by the scan, so the rows add up to the used space.
On Windows it's usually:
- Restore points and shadow copies. System Protection keeps copies of system files so you can roll back. They live in a hidden folder no app can read.
- Folders Windows wouldn't let Underbrush open. Some folders need administrator rights. The Dashboard says how many it couldn't read.
- The file system's own bookkeeping.
On a Mac it's usually local Time Machine snapshots, purgeable space, and folders Underbrush wasn't allowed to open (see Full Disk Access).
Underbrush doesn't clear any of this.
How to check restore points on Windows
- Press Start, type Create a restore point, and open it.
- Select your drive and click Configureโฆ.
- Current Usage shows how much restore points use. Max Usage is the limit.
- To get space back, lower Max Usage, or click Delete to remove all restore points for that drive.
Restore points let you undo a bad update or driver. Keep at least a little room for them.
