What it does
The System tab answers two separate questions:
- Disk space: is the disk filling up? Only clearing space changes this. The headline reads Plenty of disk space, Your disk is getting full or Your disk is nearly full, with a link to Clean up.
- Right now: is the computer working hard? This is memory and CPU, which change by the second. The headline reads Running smoothly, Working hard or Working flat out, with one score from 0 (idle) to 100 (maxed out) and a line of advice.
It also lists the computer name, operating system, processor, cores, memory, and how long the computer has been on.
Each reading is judged against its own limits:
| Getting full / busy from | Full / maxed out from | |
|---|---|---|
| Disk (how full) | 80% | 92% |
| Memory | 75% | 90% |
| CPU | 60% | 85% |
How to use it
Open the System tab. The numbers refresh every two seconds while it's open, and stop when you switch tabs.
Troubleshooting
- Disk is getting full: see what's taking the space on the Dashboard.
- CPU stays high: Task Manager (Activity Monitor on a Mac) shows which app is using it.
