Dashboard

Last updated: 22 October 2026

What it does

After a scan, the Dashboard answers "where did my space go?" on one screen.

  • Free space, with the drive size and how much is used.
  • A bar split into piles: Safe to clear, Your call, Cloud, Leave it, Unsorted and Free. See The piles.
  • The Free up button: clears the whole Safe to clear pile in one go.
  • Where the space went: top-level folders. The folders at the top of the drive, biggest first, with their share of used space, what kind of files they mostly hold, and how much inside is safe to clear. The rows add up to the used space:
    • N smaller folders: top-level folders under 0.5% of used space, added together.
    • Files on C: itself: files sitting at the top of the drive. On Windows that is usually the page file and hibernation file.
    • Not seen by the scan: space in use that the scan couldn't count. See Not seen by the scan.
  • Sorted into piles: the total of each pile. Click one to open Clean up (or Explore for Leave it).
  • What kind of files: the whole drive by kind: programs, app data and caches, videos, disk images, AI models, photos, archives, code, music, documents, and logs and temp.

How to use it

  1. Scan a drive.
  2. Click any folder row to open it in Explore.
  3. Press Free up …, check the total, and press Clear now. Or click See the list to choose item by item in Clean up.

Troubleshooting

  • "N folders couldn't be read": Windows needs administrator rights for some folders, and macOS needs Full Disk Access. They're left out of the totals. See Mac: Full Disk Access.
  • "Nothing safe to clear": everything Underbrush can clear safely is already clear. Look at Your call in Clean up.
