Back up a drive
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Rip copies a USB stick or SD card, sector by sector, into an .img file. The stick is only read. Yoink shows speed and time remaining, and writes a SHA-256 of the file when it finishes.
How to use it
- Plug in the stick and select it.
- Choose Back up this drive.
- Pick where the
.imgfile should go. Don't pick the stick itself. - Wait until Yoink says the copy is done. You can keep using the PC.
The image is a plain file. You can archive it, or boot it in Proxmox, Hyper-V or VMware.
From the command line: yoink rip E: -o installer.img on Windows, or sudo yoink rip disk4 -o installer.img on macOS.
Troubleshooting
- The stick isn't in the list: My drive isn't listed.
- Yoink refuses the disk: it is not a removable USB or SD drive, or it is the system disk.
