Screenshot paste
Last updated: 31 August 2026
What it does
StreamView pastes screenshots into AI-powered terminals like Claude Code. Instead of save-the-file-then-type-the-path, you screenshot and paste — StreamView writes the image to a PNG and types its path into the terminal. Press Enter to send it; agents that read images by path then load the file.
Use it to share a UI bug, an error dialog, DevTools output, a design mockup, or an architecture sketch.
How to use it
- Capture — take a screenshot with
Win+Shift+S,PrtSc, or any tool that copies to the clipboard. - Paste — do any of:
- press
Ctrl+Vwhen the clipboard contains an image, - press
Ctrl+Shift+Vto force a screenshot paste, or - click the camera button (📷) in the stream header.
- press
- StreamView saves the image and types the full path into the terminal. Paths that contain spaces (for example a data folder under
OneDrive - …) are quoted so the shell sees one token. - The path is typed at the prompt. Press Enter to send it; Claude Code (and other agents that read images by path) then load the file.
Screenshots are saved to {DataDir}/screenshots/ with timestamped names (e.g. screenshot_20260327_143022.png).
Troubleshooting
- Nothing pasted — the clipboard must contain an image; plain
Ctrl+Vpastes text when there's no image. UseCtrl+Shift+Vto force image paste. - The agent didn't read it — make sure the tool in that pane reads images by path (Claude Code does); the path is typed at the prompt for you to send.
