Claude Code + MCP integration (Beta)

Last updated: 31 August 2026

Not available in the Early Release. The MCP settings are hidden in the current Store build: the server works when driven directly, but the stdio handshake doesn't complete against a live Claude Code session, so the tools never register — and history search is too slow over a large history to be useful. Rather than ship a toggle that quietly does nothing, it's switched off until both are fixed. This page documents where it's heading.

Nothing you use depends on it. Save & Close and Resume capture Claude's summary straight off the terminal and need no MCP connection.

What it does

StreamView ships an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets Claude Code search your terminal history and log its own clean summaries back into it. It runs locally over stdio — there is no network server, port, or HTTP endpoint.

Security

  • No network exposure — communication is over stdin/stdout pipes, not sockets.
  • Process-level isolation — only the Claude Code process that spawned it can talk to it.
  • Read-only by default — streamview_search only reads history; streamview_log only appends.
  • Toggle on/off — disable it anytime in Settings > Data > Integration.

How to use it

Setup

Add the server to your project's .mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "streamview": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "powershell",
      "args": ["-NoProfile", "-ExecutionPolicy", "Bypass",
               "-File", "path/to/mcp-server.ps1"]
    }
  }
}

Available tools

Tool Description
streamview_search Search terminal history by keyword, date range, stream name, or role (user/assistant)
streamview_log Claude writes a clean summary to history instead of you parsing terminal output
streamview_streams List configured streams, their workspaces, and recording modes
streamview_recent Last N user prompts from recent sessions — powers "where did we leave off?"; auto-detects the current stream via the STREAMVIEW_STREAM env var
streamview_sessions Metadata-only list of recent sessions (name, date, message count, size) — faster than search for browsing
streamview_stats Usage statistics across recent sessions — totals, per-stream breakdown, daily activity, busiest day
streamview_feedback Disabled. Submit feedback from StreamView > Help > Contact Support — an agent must not be able to send history off-machine without you confirming.
  • Use the built-in Claude Code stream template.
  • Set the stream's recording mode to Input Only — captures your prompts cleanly and skips TUI noise.
  • Enable the MCP server so Claude can log findings and search past sessions.
  • Tell Claude to log important findings: "log this to StreamView history."

Troubleshooting

  • Claude doesn't see the server — confirm the -File path in .mcp.json points to mcp-server.ps1, and that Integration is enabled in Settings > Data.
  • Searches return nothing — the stream must have history; check its recording mode and that Auto-save sessions is on.
