Layouts
Last updated: 9 September 2026
What it does
Layouts arrange your terminal panes on screen. StreamView has four modes, and your choice is saved per workspace.
| Layout | Description | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Grid | Equal-sized panes in rows and columns | Monitoring multiple similar processes |
| Main + Sidebar | One large pane with smaller panes stacked in a sidebar | A primary task with background monitors |
| Rows | Horizontal strips stacked vertically | Log monitoring and tailing |
| Single | Full-screen single terminal | Focused work or reading output |
How to use it
- Switch layout — click a layout button in the toolbar.
- Resize panes — drag the splitters between panes. Grid supports vertical and horizontal splitters; Main+Sidebar has a splitter between the main pane and the sidebar (and between sidebar items); Rows has horizontal splitters. Minimum pane sizes are enforced, and sizes reset to equal when streams are added, removed, or rotated.
- Rotate streams — click the current layout's button again to rotate which stream sits in which position, or use the rotate buttons (⟲ ⟳). Shortcuts:
Ctrl+]forward,Ctrl+[backward. - Fullscreen — click the expand button on the pane header, or
Ctrl+Shift+F11. Press again to return to your previous layout. BareF11used to do this and fired while you were typing;F1–F12now go to the terminal. (Ctrl+Enterdid the same through 2026.8.8; it was removed in 2026.8.9 because Claude Code uses it for newlines.)
Troubleshooting
- A pane won't shrink further — minimum pane sizes are enforced so a pane can't collapse to nothing.
- Pane sizes jumped back to equal — adding, removing, or rotating streams resets sizes to equal by design; resize again afterward.
- The layout changed on its own — that was bare
F11(next toF12). It is no longer a layout toggle. Layout switches are view-only and never start a stopped stream; since 2026.8.8 each one is logged with its trigger in%LOCALAPPDATA%\StreamView\streamview.log. - Auto-hide taskbar does not appear over a maximized window — StreamView now leaves the taskbar's trigger edge free when the bar is set to auto-hide, so mousing to that edge still slides it out.
