Getting started

HollowMap is early access. UniFi is the most tested controller hook-up; other vendors are early access or planned. The desktop Setup wizard walks this on first launch (Help → Setup wizard to see it again).

1. Run the server where it belongs

Run the HollowMap desktop app on a machine that is wired to your core switch or router. Leave the window open while you walk — the tablet talks to this PC.

2. Hook up your controller (best)

Open Settings and pick the system that already runs your APs:

• UniFi (UDM, Cloud Key, self-hosted) — stable, most tested. Use a local admin account, not your Ubiquiti cloud (SSO) login.
• TP-Link Omada — beta.
• OpenWRT, MikroTik, Aruba Instant, Ruckus, Cisco Catalyst 9800 — early access.
• No controller — GPS only; UniFi/AP columns stay empty.

3. Connect the tablet

The 6-digit walk code is at the top of the desktop window (click to copy). You do not type the long ?k= key.

Android app (best)	On the tablet Chrome, open the Connect URL, tap Download Android app (do not uninstall first). In the app, type the PC address (e.g. 192.168.1.20:9444) and the walk code, then Save until it says will save to PC	Phone dBm + AP dBm, and GPS with the screen off
Android, in the browser	Chrome: scan the QR or open the URL, Advanced → Proceed past the certificate warning	No install. The AP's view of the phone, and the screen must stay awake
iPhone / iPad	Safari: scan the QR or open the URL, then Show Details → visit this website past the certificate warning	Browser cannot read phone Wi-Fi — HollowMap uses the AP’s view. Auto-Lock stops GPS

The app needs the PC address as well as the walk code; the browser needs neither if you opened the QR, because the link carries the key.

A tablet can appear On the LAN after ping, before the walk code. That is not recording. The strip says RECORDING only when points land.

4. Walk, then review

Tap Start recording, walk, tap until it says STOPPING… then STOPPED. The desktop jumps to the Map. Pin each AP with U6+ is here (UniFi name + this GPS). Mark house / Blink / Nest separately.
