Record a survey

What it does. Logs GPS‑tagged signal samples as you walk, so the map shows coverage where you actually went.

How to use it

Connect the tablet (Connect a device) — PC address and walk code in the app, then will save to PC. Recording from a phone browser instead? See Record in a browser.
Allow Location.
Tap the green Start recording bar. It turns red (RECORDING). The desktop jumps to the Map. Android shows phone dBm, UniFi dBm, AP, IP, and a small live map on the same Record screen (no Map / APs / Reports tabs — those are on the PC). Scroll for walk name, Floor, U6+ is here, and Blink / house. Floor defaults to Outdoor. Inside a building, pick the floor; change it when you take the stairs — the walk keeps going.
Walk. The walk is on this tablet. A new point is saved at most every 3 s, and only when you move ~5 m, the radio jumps ~6 dB, or 20 s pass while you stand still. If the PC is up, points also land on the map as you go. If the PC is down, the tablet says so and stops trying — keep walking. Off Wi-Fi it still logs GPS as a blind spot.
Tap the red bar. It says STOPPING… then SENDING TO PC… then STOPPED (or “walk is on this tablet” if the PC is still down). Do not tap twice or it will start a new walk. Open the app later on Wi-Fi with the PC up and leftover points send themselves.

Android stores phone RSSI and UniFi RSSI (apSignal) together when the tablet is in the controller client list.
Any browser (iPhone, iPad, Android) cannot read the phone radio; HollowMap uses the AP’s view, or records position only with no controller.
Points recorded out of range keep their own GPS and radio reading and are stored with no AP — HollowMap does not guess which AP you were on.
Walk label (SURVEY LABEL) names the path. Blank → walk-YYYY-MM-DD-HHmm.
Floor tags every new point. Outdoor is unspecified (timber walks). Upstairs and downstairs are separate heatmaps on the coverage map.
U6+ is here saves only that UniFi AP + this GPS (yellow). Mark this GPS is for house / Blink / Nest.

Start does nothing — on a Galaxy Tab A, use the green bar at the top (not a button inside the scroll). Install the latest APK over the current one (do not uninstall).
Connected but no points — ping is open without the walk code. Save the 6-digit code until will save to PC.
UniFi · not in client list — UniFi may still list the tablet; the app could not match this IP yet, or the walk code is missing. Not “UniFi down.”
Stop seemed to do nothing — wait for STOPPING…. A second tap starts recording again.
"Another tablet is already recording" — one device records at a time. Your points are kept, not lost; stop the other device, or leave it idle two minutes, and they will send.
Map puts you on the road while you are in the house — indoor tablet GPS often snaps to the street, then jumps closer without you walking. That trail is GPS warming up, not a walk. I'm here on the desktop map, then tap the house. A phone with cell (assisted GPS) locks faster outside; indoors every Android still does this. The Tab A is enough for house walks.
