← RootMap

The map is blank

Last updated: 29 May 2026

If the whole map area is blank or white — no tiles, no zoom controls — while the rest of the app works, RootMap can't start its map engine, the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.

Fix

  • Windows 11 ships WebView2, so this is rare. If it happens, RootMap shows a "WebView2 Runtime required" prompt — click through to download and run the small installer, then restart RootMap.
  • Windows 10 / managed PCs sometimes lack it. Install the Evergreen WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft (the in-app prompt links straight to it), then restart.

Everything else — Library, People, Tags, Export — works without the runtime; only the map needs it.

Still blank after installing?

  • Fully restart RootMap so it picks up the newly installed runtime.
  • Make sure you're online — map tiles load from the internet even once the runtime is installed.

Still stuck? In the app, use Help → Contact support, or open a ticket here.
