RootMap is built on the work of these projects and data providers — thank you to all of them.
Map tiles & geocoding
The map needs internet to fetch tiles from these providers, with attribution shown on the map.
- OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database License. Powers the Streets basemap (in light and dark mode), place search, and place names in the photo viewer (via OSM's Nominatim geocoder).
- Esri — Tiles © Esri. Source: Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics, and the GIS User Community. Powers the Satellite, Hybrid (imagery and place labels), and Topo basemaps.
Open-source libraries
- Leaflet & Leaflet.draw — interactive map, bundled with the app (BSD-2 / MIT)
- FaceONNX + Microsoft.ML.OnnxRuntime (DirectML) — on-device face detection (MIT)
- Magick.NET (ImageMagick) — image decoding for HEIC and legacy JPEG variants (Apache 2.0)
