No audio was captured

The recording is silent, or the System meter never moves. Work through these in order.

1. Is audio actually playing?

The meter only moves when your PC is producing sound. Play something and confirm you can hear it before pressing RECORD.

2. Is it playing on the device StreamTap is recording?

This is the common one. StreamTap records one playback device — whichever is chosen under Record from. If your browser is playing through headphones while StreamTap is recording your speakers, StreamTap records silence.

Open the Record from list and pick the device the sound is actually coming out of. If you are not sure which that is, check Windows Settings → System → Sound → Output, and confirm the app you're recording is using that same device (some apps let you pick a device per-app under Advanced → App volume and device preferences).

3. Did you change output devices mid-recording?

StreamTap binds to the device it opened when you pressed RECORD. Switching devices during a recording — plugging in headphones, connecting Bluetooth — cuts the capture off. Stop and start a new recording after switching.

If this keeps happening, pick the device by name under Record from instead of leaving it on Default: a named device stays selected no matter what Windows switches to.

4. Is the app using exclusive-mode audio?

A few professional audio applications take exclusive control of the sound device, which bypasses loopback capture. In the audio device's properties under Advanced, clearing "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" usually fixes it.

5. Is the source muted or at zero?

Windows per-app volume set to zero means silence reaches the loopback device, and silence is what gets recorded. Check the volume mixer.

Still stuck?

Press Support in StreamTap and file a ticket. Leave Include diagnostic logs ticked — the logs tell us which device was in use and what the capture did.

Still stuck? In the app, use Help → Contact support, or open a ticket here.
