StreamTap privacy policy
Last updated: 18 August 2026
StreamTap is a Windows desktop application published by LTC Labs. The short version: your recordings never leave your computer.
What StreamTap stores on your computer
| Data | Where it lives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Recordings | Music\StreamTap (or the folder you pick) | The WAV or MP3 you asked for |
| Settings | %APPDATA%\StreamTap\settings.json | Format, devices, save folder, usage-data toggle |
| Telemetry queue | %LOCALAPPDATA%\LTCLabs\StreamTap\telemetry_queue.json | Offline buffer if a diagnostic POST could not be sent |
| Logs | %LOCALAPPDATA%\LTCLabs\StreamTap\Logs\ | Diagnosing capture problems |
| Last update check | %LOCALAPPDATA%\LTCLabs\StreamTap\.last-update-check | So the app does not check more than once a day |
StreamTap does not upload, transcode to a server, or back up your recordings.
What StreamTap sends to LTC Labs
Diagnostic and service-improvement data, anonymous. No personal files, content, names, or account identifiers. You can opt out of optional usage data. Crash reports and basic stability data stay on so we can fix issues.
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Once a day at startup | App version, Windows version, and an anonymous machine ID, so we know whether you are on a current build |
| If StreamTap crashes | Error type and stack trace |
| On close | A small batch of events: app opened, app closed, and any recording failures |
The machine ID is a one-way hash of a Windows identifier. It cannot be turned back into anything about you or your PC.
Every usage event is documented in Telemetry.
Optional usage data
With Send anonymous usage data on, StreamTap also reports when a recording finishes โ format, bitrate, length in seconds, whether the mic was on, and file size in MB. Never the filename, never the contents, never what you recorded.
You choose this the first time you run StreamTap, on the welcome screen, and you can change it in Settings in the window header.
What is never collected
- File paths or filenames
- Audio content of any kind
- Anything you type, except what you put in a support ticket
- Your name, email, or account details โ except the email you type into the support form, after on-screen confirmation
Support tickets
When you file a ticket you give us your email and, if you leave the box ticked, your diagnostic logs. That is you deliberately sending us something, not background telemetry.
