Night mode
Last updated: 29 September 2026
What it does
Night mode watches for mouse and keyboard activity. When you've been away for the time you choose, it sleeps every monitor that isn't marked Always on. The moment you move the mouse or press a key, they wake up again. Go idle again, and they sleep again.
It doesn't need to know your schedule — it knows when you're at the computer. If you go to bed at 7 but are back at 2 am, the monitors are there when you sit down.
How to use it
- Mark the monitor that must stay on as Always on.
- Tick Night mode.
- Choose how many minutes without mouse or keyboard before the monitors sleep (10 is a good start).
- Optional: tick Only between and set a time window (for example 22:00 and 07:00) if you only want this at night. Leave it unticked to have it work all day.
- Optional: leave Put windows back where they were on wake ticked — see Putting windows back on wake.
Changes save automatically.
Good to know
- Only mouse and keyboard count as activity. A video playing with nobody touching the computer counts as idle — use the time window if that matters to you.
- Night mode works from the tray; the settings window doesn't need to be open. BranchOut Display does need to be running.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing happens after the idle time. Check the time window: if Only between is ticked, Night mode only acts inside those hours. Also check a monitor isn't marked Always on by mistake.
- A monitor goes black but its light stays on. It doesn't support DDC/CI — see Monitors that can't sleep directly.
- A monitor doesn't come back. See A monitor won't wake up.
