Always on

What it does

A monitor marked Always on is never put to sleep by BranchOut Display, and Windows is stopped from turning your displays off while it's running. Use it for a security-camera (NVR) view, a dashboard, or anything you need to see at a glance.

Your other monitors can still sleep — that's the point.

How to use it

1. Open BranchOut Display (click the tray icon).
2. Click the monitor's tile on the map. Use Identify if you're not sure which is which.
3. Tick Always on (e.g. security cameras). The tile turns orange and says ALWAYS ON.

You can mark more than one monitor.

Good to know

• While any monitor is Always on, Windows' own "turn off the display after…" timer is held off, so the always-on screen really stays lit. The PC won't go to sleep either.
• BranchOut Display never sends that monitor a power command, so it works even if the monitor doesn't support DDC/CI.

Troubleshooting

• The always-on screen still goes dark. Check the monitor's own power-saving menu (some monitors dim or sleep on their own after a period with no change on screen). Also check that BranchOut Display is still running in the tray.
• Windows put the whole PC to sleep. That's prevented only while the app is running — make sure Start with Windows is ticked.
