Is it free?

Yes. BranchOut Display is free, with no account, trial or ads.

What is DDC/CI?

A standard that lets a PC send commands — brightness, input, power — to a monitor over the display cable. BranchOut Display uses it to sleep and wake individual monitors. Most monitors support it; it's sometimes switched off in the monitor's own menu.

Why can't Windows do this already?

Windows' display timeout and "turn off display" apply to every monitor at once. There's no built-in way to keep one on while others sleep.

Does it need to keep running?

Yes — it's what sleeps and wakes your monitors. It sits in the system tray and uses almost no resources. Tick Start with Windows so it's always running.

How do I quit it?

Right-click the tray icon → Exit. Closing the window only hides it to the tray.

Will it stop my PC from sleeping?

Only while a monitor is marked Always on — keeping that screen lit means keeping the PC awake. With no always-on monitor, your normal Windows power settings apply.

Does it work with a laptop screen?

Laptop screens don't use DDC/CI, so they're handled like monitors that can't sleep directly.

How do I uninstall it?

Exit it from the tray, untick Start with Windows first if you ticked it, then delete the program. Settings and logs live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\BranchOutDisplay — delete that folder too if you like.
