Getting Started

01 Install

1. Install from the Microsoft Store
2. Nothing else is required — no runtime, no account

02 Find your scanner

• Network — eSCL / AirScan (most Epson, HP, Brother, Canon since ~2015)
• USB — anything with a Windows WIA driver
• Press Find (or F5) if the list is empty

03 Choose how to scan

• Flatbed, Feeder, or Feeder (Duplex)
• 300 DPI and OCR on is the usual setup
• Last settings come back next time

04 Scan and export

1. Press Scan. Press again to add more pages
2. Reorder, rotate, or drop blanks from the thumbnails
3. Press Export PDF

Scanning

Input source

Flatbed — the glass. One page per scan. Books, cards, anything that isn't a loose sheet.
Feeder — pulls the whole stack in one job.
Feeder (Duplex) — both sides of every sheet. Offered only when the scanner claims to support it.

Resolution

The list only shows values your scanner supports.

150–200 — drafts, smallest files
300 — default. Text, reliable OCR
600 — small print, archival

Colour and paper

Grayscale for text, Colour for photos or ink
Letter, A4, or Legal — match the paper you loaded
Auto-crop trims scanner margins from feeder scans

Two-sided scanning

Load the stack in the document feeder, set Input source to Feeder (Duplex), press Scan. Pages arrive in reading order: sheet 1 front, sheet 1 back, and so on. Four double-sided sheets become an eight-page PDF.

Blank backs are still captured. Delete them afterwards from the thumbnail list. Some scanners advertise duplex over the network but only return the front — if you get half the pages, check the scanner's own duplex setting, or scan fronts then flip the stack.

OCR (searchable PDFs)

Leave OCR ticked. Tesseract runs on your machine after each page arrives and embeds an invisible text layer. Ctrl+F in any PDF reader finds the words. In the app, Find in pages (Ctrl+F) jumps to the page that has the text.

300 DPI grayscale is the sweet spot. English only at present. Printed text, not handwriting. Nothing is uploaded.

Sessions

Pages are saved as you scan. Close the app and they are still there. The Session dropdown opens earlier stacks; New starts a blank one without throwing the last one away. Export does not clear the session — add more pages and export again.

Sessions live in the documents folder (default Documents\StackToPDF). Settings can point that at OneDrive, Dropbox, or anywhere you already back up. Export all pages, selected thumbnails, a range (1-3), or a list (1,2,4).

Is it really free? ▼

Yes. All features, no ads, no watermarks, no page limits, no account.

Does my data go anywhere? ▼

No. Scanning, OCR and PDF creation happen on your machine. The app contacts ltclabs.dev for a version check and for support tickets if you file one. Tickets include recent logs, not the document. See the privacy policy.

Which scanners work? ▼

Network scanners speaking eSCL (AirScan) — most Epson, HP, Brother and Canon models made since roughly 2015 — and USB or driver-based scanners with a Windows driver. If your phone can scan to it without installing an app, StackToPDF can almost certainly use it.

Why does two-sided scanning only give me the fronts? ▼

Your scanner probably advertises duplex without actually delivering it. Check the scanner's own duplex setting. Workaround: scan the fronts, flip the stack, scan the backs, then reorder.

Is there a Mac or Linux version? ▼

Not today. Windows only for now.

How do I report a bug? ▼

Use Support in the app rather than email — it attaches recent logs, which usually shows the problem straight away. You'll get a ticket number and a reply by email.
