StackToPDF privacy policy
Last updated: 6 September 2026
Your scanned documents never leave your computer. Scanning, text recognition (OCR) and PDF creation all happen locally. StackToPDF has no cloud service to upload documents to, and no account to sign in to.
What we never collect
- The contents of anything you scan. Images, recognised text and the PDFs you create stay on your machine.
- Your name, address or payment details. There is nothing to buy and no account.
- Your files or folder contents.
What the app does send
On startup — version check
Each time the app starts it contacts ltclabs.dev to ask whether a newer version exists, and sends the app name and version, your operating system and its version, and an anonymous machine identifier.
Anonymous usage counts
Basic counts of app launches and feature use, tied only to the anonymous machine identifier. They never include document contents, file names or scan results.
Crash reports
If the app hits an unexpected error, it sends the error type, message and technical stack trace. Before sending, we remove your Windows user folder path (replaced with <user>) and anything shaped like a password, key or token. Offline crashes are stored locally and sent next launch. At most 20 reports are kept.
Support tickets — only when you file one
If you use the Support button, we receive what you type — email, name if you give one, subject and message — along with app version, OS and the anonymous machine identifier. If you leave Include recent logs ticked, the last 500 lines of the app's log are attached. These record scanners found, settings requested, and what the scanner replied. They do not contain your scanned documents or recognised text. They may contain file paths of saved PDFs. Untick the box if you would rather not send logs.
The anonymous machine identifier
The app hashes Windows' machine GUID with SHA-256. The original GUID never leaves your machine. It is not linked to your name, email or any account — unless you file a support ticket, in which case it is attached so we can match crash reports.
How long we keep things
| Data | Retained |
|---|---|
| Usage counts | 180 days |
| Crash reports | 90 days |
| Support tickets and attached logs | While the ticket is open, then archived |
Who we share it with
Nobody. We do not sell, rent or share this data. There are no advertising networks, analytics services or third-party trackers in the app.
Data is stored on infrastructure operated by LTC Labs, using Amazon Web Services.
Working offline
Scanning, OCR and export work with no internet connection. A network scanner needs your local network, but nothing needs to reach the internet. If you are offline, the version check and any usage counts fail quietly and are retried later.
Your choices
- Don't send logs with a ticket — untick "Include recent logs" before submitting.
- Don't file tickets — email [email protected] instead, and you control exactly what you send.
- Ask us to delete your data — email support. For tickets we can find them by email address. For crash reports and usage counts, include a previous ticket number so we can locate the matching machine identifier.
