A perfect reflection of your drive

Stillwater takes an exact image of your whole drive: Windows, apps, settings and files, onto a USB disk or another drive, while you keep working. Think Norton Ghost, rebuilt for Windows 11.

Windows stopped looking after the whole drive

System Image Backup is gone

Windows' own whole-drive backup is deprecated and hidden, and File History keeps files, not a working system.

A new SSD means starting over

Moving Windows to a new drive still means a reinstall or a confusing third-party tool.

Backup tools assume you know

Most imaging tools talk in sectors and "Disk 2". Pick the wrong one and you find out the hard way.

What it does

Back up this PC

Pick the drive, pick where the image goes, review the plan, and Stillwater copies it. The whole drive: Windows, apps, settings and files.

While you keep working

Stillwater takes a Volume Shadow Copy snapshot, so the image is consistent even though Windows is running.

Only what's used

Empty space isn't copied, so an image is about the size of what's on the drive, not the size of the drive.

Every image is verified

After it's written, Stillwater reads the image back and checks it against what it copied, and writes a manifest beside it.

A standard VHDX file

Images are Microsoft's own virtual disk format. Windows can open one with a double-click, and Stillwater can browse it too.

Plain disk names

"Samsung 1 TB, Windows, 412 GB used", not "Disk 2". SSD or hard disk, and what's on each partition, without admin rights.

Coming next

Stillwater ships one job at a time and only when it's safe. These are on the way, in free updates.

Restore

Put an image back on the same drive or a new one, boot and recovery partitions included, so it starts up as before.

Clone to a new SSD

Copy one drive straight to another, resizing partitions to fit.

Recovery stick

A bootable USB stick that runs Stillwater outside Windows, for restoring the drive Windows runs from.

Partitions

Create, delete, format, resize and move, with the before and after in front of you.

The safety rules are the product

Nothing is written until you've seen the plan

Every job shows which disk, before and after, and what will change, then asks for a clear yes.

Never onto the disk it came from

Stillwater refuses a target that holds the source, and checks there's room before it starts.

Never writes to the running Windows disk

Restoring or repartitioning the system disk will happen from the recovery stick, never underneath a running Windows.

Your images stay yours

Images are written where you choose and nowhere else. Stillwater has no account and doesn't send your files, disk contents or image files anywhere.
